If you loved *Taking Woodstock*, you already know Tiber has a talent for spinning a compelling story, but this follow-up memoir is even bigger, deeper, and far more personal.. The book picks up right where the festival left off. Tiber describes loading a stash of cash into his Cadillac, pointing the car toward the horizon, and driving away from his family’s crumbling El Monaco motel in upstate New York for good. That one reckless, joyful act sets the tone for everything that follows. Tiber admits he didn’t have it all figured out — he was hungry, a little lost, and completely done waiting for permission to be himself. His honesty immediately draws readers into his world. What follows moves forward with the relentless energy of a man determined not to sit still. Tiber chases his creative ambitions across the country and across the ocean — to Hollywood, Europe… anywhere life takes him. His writing is laced with self-deprecating wit that made me laugh out loud more than once. But the true heart of the book is his relationship with André Ernotte, the Belgian playwright and director who became the love of his life. Together, they built art, tackled ambitious projects, and cocreated a novel that became a bestseller in Belgium. Tiber writes about André with tenderness that never slips into sentimentality. He keeps the rough edges intact, making the story feel authentic and real. Not everything in *After Woodstock* is easy to read, and Tiber doesn’t pretend otherwise. He writes candidly about the AIDS epidemic, conveying raw, firsthand grief that no amount of research could replicate. Friends and loved ones disappear far too soon, and those passages sit heavily on the chest — as they should. But even in the darkest moments, Tiber’s warmth never fully leaves the page. He mourns, then continues to move, create, and love. That resilience transforms a painful chapter of history into something profoundly human. Initially, I started with the print version of the book. However, I switched to the audiobook midway through because of a vacation — and that turned out to be one of the best decisions. The narration by Edwin Wald is exceptional. His performance brings the story to life with warmth, humor, and nuance that perfectly match Tiber’s honest writing. Wald’s timing, delivery, and subtle asides make the story feel even more personal. When Wald jokes, you can almost hear the grin behind it. During the more emotional parts, the weight in his voice stops you cold. His narration elevates the memoir from a compelling read to an unforgettable listening experience. *After Woodstock* is funny, honest, heartbreaking, and unforgettable. Whether you’re a longtime fan of *Taking Woodstock* or meeting Tiber for the first time, this memoir is well worth your time.
